Notre Dame Football: NFL Draft Sites Love Tommy Kraemer In 2020
By J.P. Scott
The 2020 NFL Draft is two years away, but some mocks have Notre Dame football offensive tackle Tommy Kraemer as a potential first-rounder.
If you’re like me, you’re an NFL Draft geek, always seeking out mock drafts throughout the year. I was doing just that recently, in search of names of Notre Dame football players popping up in early rounds.
It appears that a couple of NFL Draft sites like current Irish offensive tackle Tommy Kraemer as a potential first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
WalterFootball.com, one of my favorite draft sites, has Kraemer being selected 18th overall by the Miami Dolphins in 2020. Site owner Walter Cherepinsky — who created this particular mock — cites Kraemer’s physical run-blocking as a strength that could propel him to being a first-round pick.
Draftblaster.com also posted a 2020 NFL Mock Draft. They have Tommy Kraemer going No. 20 overall to the Dallas Cowboys. They don’t give any further information or reasoning for their picks.
Look, these are just the opinions of a couple of people, but as Notre Dame fans, this must make you feel better as the 2018 season approaches.
So much has been made of the losses of Quenton Nelson and Mike McGlinchey. Those losses have caused many people — both in the Irish fan base and around the country — to assume that there will be a significant dropoff in Notre Dame’s offensive line play from last season.
That may not be the case.
Sam Mustipher and Alex Bars should be amongst the best at their respective positions in 2018 — and their presence on preseason watch lists are indicative of that. Now you add in a potential future first-round draft pick at offensive tackle and the perception of what this unit is capable of this coming season changes dramatically.
Not many programs around the country can claim to have three sure-fire future NFL players on their current starting offensive line. Notre Dame can, and that may be instrumental to potentially keeping the Irish in the College Football Playoff conversation all season long.
