Under Armour and Notre Dame football released their design for this year’s Shamrock Series uniforms on Thursday.

Well, we know what’s going to dominate Notre Dame football Twitter for the next day or so.

On Thursday, Under Armour and Notre Dame released the design for this season’s Shamrock Series uniforms.

So far, we’ve seen a mixed reaction to the New York Yankee/Yankee Stadium tribute.

Earlier this year, we ranked the previous Shamrock Series uniforms. It will be interesting to see where these measure up when they are factored into the same rankings next season.

For now, here’s how our writers reacted to the Shamrock Series alternates:

Ben Belden

The matte navy (and the overall helmet) is kind of cool and the navy uniform is fine. I really like the script “Notre Dame” on the front of the jersey. I’ve never been a pinstripe guy, so I could have gone without the full-fledged pinstripes on the pants.

Carlee North

I like them.

I love everything about matte and have always wanted to see an Irish helmet that way, so I’m happy. I think the pants and gloves fit the Yankees concept to a tee. The only part I would say I’m not a huge fan of is the shoulder stripes. If they just stuck to the pants and gloves, it would have looked a whole lot better. Overall, I like them and they will look really good on the players. And I am by no means a Yankees fan!

Connor McJunkin

If I had to grade these Shamrock Series uniforms, I’d give them a solid 5.8 out of 10. I don’t love them and I don’t hate them. They are a little less flashy than previous Shamrock uniforms and the pinstripe pants are a nice tie to the Yankees. I think it’s shameful to rock a Notre Dame uniform without any noticeable gold on the helmet, jersey, or pants. It’ll be interesting to see how they look come November 17th in Yankee Stadium.

Jack Leniart

My initial reaction to the latest Shamrock Series uniforms was a mixture of a disappointed parent reading their child’s poor report card and slight indigestion. However, like most things, these have the potential to grow on me in the coming days and weeks. The jerseys by themselves look nice. I think Under Armor and Notre Dame will have no problem selling those. The helmets are what turned me off the most. Even though the description says navy, they look like they’re black, and that clashes a bit with the rest of the uniform. They could have done a better job with the decals on the helmets as well.

Paul Walsh

I’m going to this game in November. As cold as I’m sure it will be in the Bronx, I’m feeling equally cold towards these uniforms. I’m a huge Yankee fan, and I saw Notre Dame play at Yankee Stadium in the Pinstripe Bowl a few years back. In this way, I certainly appreciate the attempt to marry two of the most iconic brands in sports. But the marriage falls short on the Notre Dame side. The pinstripes are awesome, and the (what I assume to be) homage to the circular plaques in Yankee Stadium’s Monument Park on the helmets is a nice touch. However, I don’t feel there is enough of Notre Dame’s brand in these uniforms to call it a perfect marriage. They aren’t the worst of Shamrock Series uniforms, but those helmets need some more GOLD!

Mason Plummer

I give them a six out of ten. I love the idea, they just did too much with it.

Sonny Martinez

I’m really on the fence. I get what the goal was, and it was accomplished, but I’m not sure these two uniforms mix well. I’m not a fan of the helmets. I think the logo should have been bigger and black Notre Dame helmets just don’t look right to me. I thought this is one of the worst Shamrock Series uniforms to date, but the more I look at the actual uniforms, the more I like them. I wish the sleeves didn’t have pinstripes. I like the uniforms. Can’t stand the helmets.

Mychal Hunter

I don’t like them. I’m a Red Sox fan. Yankees suck.

J.P. Scott

I pretty much love everything about them, and I grew up despising the Yankees. That said, everything looks better in pinstripes in my opinion. I like the idea of sacrificing Notre Dame’s iconic look and paying homage to the iconic look of the team that is essentially letting Notre Dame borrow its crib for a day. My favorite part is rather low key: the script Notre Dame on the chest in that traditional Yankees font.

Chase Eyrich

I always love the Shamrock Series and the excitement of seeing the alternate jersey. This time, as a Red Sox fan, I will have to swallow a lot of pride. But overall I must admit, they’re slick. It’s simple, yet ties directly into the goal of the Shamrock jersey, which is to connect them to the host city. While a gold helmet wouldn’t look right, not calling them the Golden Domer’s for a game will be hard. Overall I don’t expect this to be a huge success based on the fact that Notre Dame has a large fan base in the city of Boston. Also, who even likes the Yankees anyway?

I think Notre Dame and Under Armour did a great job on the overall concept of this year’s Shamrock Series uniform. However, I think the execution is where they screwed up. The iconic, pinstripe baseball feel is great, but the sleeves are a bit much. I would have left the pinstripes solely on the pants.

Although, I will say…it looks better when the players are wearing them than in the original pictures.
