Where does Notre Dame basketball turn after Stewart eliminated them from consideration?

A couple weeks ago I intimated that Notre Dame basketball could be shifting its focus from 2019 center Isaiah Stewart to Tre Mitchell. Yesterday Stewart, a Top 10 player in the class, cut his list from ten to six and eliminated Notre Dame from consideration.

He made the announcement on his Twitter page.

I had an inkling, and it was not very popular among the Slap the Sign readers.

I have a pretty good feel for these things, guys.

So where do we go from here? The prettiest girl at the prom just gave us the Heisman and now all hope is lost, right? Nah. Coach Brey is still pursuing some lovely dance partners.

  1. Tre Mitchell – I am huge fan of Mitchell and he fits stylistically. A pick and pop big man with range, I think Mitchell — who is now the 86th ranked recruit in the nation — is still undervalued by recruiting services. Also, in my very humble opinion, he is the most likely big man to land in South Bend.
  2. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl  – A high flying, rim punishing 6-8 forward, JRE recently named the Irish in his final five. He has a kind of a Zion Williamson mystique around him, in that his hype videos are filled with a LOT of dunks. Kansas is still the heavy favorite with all the crystal ball picks, but once you get a kid on campus for an official visit, anything can happen.
  3. Zeke Nnaji – Probably the biggest longshot of three, Nnaji unofficially visited South Bend just yesterday. The No. 30 recruit in the 2019 class is a slender 6-10, 210-pound athletic forward. Interestingly enough, he is currently predicted to attend Kansas, just like JRE. It’s doubtful that both end up in Lawrence, so it is worth keeping an eye on this one.

So, the word of the day is ‘patience’ fellow golden domers. You might not always land the prettiest girl at the dance, but sometimes you do land the best one.
