A 2020 recruit Hunter Dickinson is set to visit the Notre Dame basketball team in South Bend on September 1st for his first official visit.

The Notre Dame basketball coaching staff continue to pound the recruiting trail for post players. While in recent weeks we have concentrated on the targets in the 2019 class, Today 2020 big man Hunter Dickinson revealed that he will visit Notre Dame for his first official visit.

Dickinson, considered the number 4 center in the country and a top 20 recruit overall, currently attends historic DeMatha Catholic in Maryland.

My first thought when I saw this news was that Dickinson may be reclassifying to the 2019 class. In previous years, juniors in high school were not allowed to take official visits before January 1st of their junior year. Apparently, the new recruiting guidelines regarding official visits, which recently changed from 5 to 15, allows high school players to take five visits during their junior season and five visits during their senior season. I am having a really hard time finding this information, but I must conclude that sophomores are allowed to have five official visits as well. That is purely speculation though, I can honestly only find information on the old rules.

Dickinson is truly a modern marvel, the guy was 6’11 at age 15 and has grown another 3 inches in recent years.

When watching his tape there are a couple things that stand out to me:

  1. His hands: If you feed him at the waste and above he will catch it
  2. What was the first thing your high school coach always told you, big men? Don’t bring the ball down!! He does not bring the ball down. On both offensive rebounds and feeds at the shoulders and above he goes right to the rim. No power dribble. No wasted movement.

The very first clip in that video is also interesting, as he is out ahead on the break. After watching a few more videos it seems relatively safe to assume he is a very mobile big man with good hands and good instincts who has been well-coached.

Irish fans should be excited about the prospect of adding this… prospect. At the same time, realize that the recruiting rules regarding official visits going from 5 to 15 took place immediately, so he can still visit nine more schools before making his decision, not four.
