ANNAPOLIS, MD – SEPTEMBER 10: Safety Alohi Gilman #1 of the Navy Midshipmen celebrates with Daiquan Thomasson #26 after Gilman returned a fumble for a second quarter touchdown against the Connecticut Huskies at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on September 10, 2016 in Annapolis, Maryland. Breakout Performer

CN: Jafar Armstrong — With Armstrong making the full switch from wide receiver to running back, I think it will showcase his athleticism to the max. Also, with the backfield being a “committee” type year, I think he has a real shot to show everyone who he has become. He could be special.

CM: Jafar Armstrong — He had a solid spring and a great camp. With the question marks and lack of depth at the RB position — especially to the start the season — it’s a perfect opportunity for him to steal the spotlight in the backfield. Look for him to make big plays throughout the season and be a great spark for the Irish offense.

JS: Alohi Gilman — He was always going to be a big part of what the Irish do in the secondary. Now — with the injury to Shaun Crawford, he becomes that much more important.

SM: Jafar Armstrong — I’m all in on Armstrong this season. Someone has to replace Josh Adams. With questions surrounding other backs, on the field or off, and if the Spring Game is any indication, Armstrong is just the guy to do so.

NE: Alohi Gilman — We’ve simply heard too much about the type of impact Gilman will have in the secondary to not believe the hype. After sitting out due to transfer rules last season, Gilman is a clear cut starter in the back-end of the Irish defense. He’s smart, athletic and savvy, Gilman is a huge part of the reason no one is talking about the safeties in a negative connotation anymore. That Navy football attitude will surely be welcomed.
