Biggest Impact Freshman

CN: Kevin Austin — Austin is just too good to leave off the field. He’s physically ready for the college game and ready to contribute. He has that “It” factor that you want on the outside, and he won’t be afraid to go up and make a play when called upon. I think Irish fans will be surprised how much playing time he gets.

CM: Houston Griffith – To be completely honest, I didn’t really know which freshman to pick, but I’ll go with the name I’ve heard most in camp. Griffith will have the easiest time stepping into starting role, especially if players like Coleman and Elliott do not take a step forward.

JS: Houston Griffith — Unfortunately, this is another player whose rise in prominence will be tied to the injury of Shaun Crawford. Griffith is mature beyond his years and will be called upon to play like it in 2018.

SM: Houston Griffith — At 6-foot, 205, Griffith is already one of the biggest safeties on the roster. He comes in with four-star pedigree as one of the top overall recruits in the class. Already listed in the two-deep behind Nick Coleman, he should receive early playing time.

NE: Shayne Simon — I wanted to go with Griffith due to being an early enrollee and the fact he’s already in the two deep, but I think Simon has the best chance to start the majority of the games this season. He is currently behind a senior, but it’s a senior in Asmar Bilal who has never taken full advantage of his opportunities. Simon is a special person and athlete and should thrive at ROVER in Clark Lea’s defense.
