Notre Dame football moved up to No. 8 in the latest AP Top 25.

After a huge win over Michigan to open the 2018 Notre Dame football season, the Fighting Irish moved up from No. 12 to No. 8 in this week’s AP Top 25.

A move into the top ten was expected, especially after Washington’s loss to Auburn and Miami’s loss to LSU. Miami fell out of the top ten, while Washington dropped from No. 6 to No. 9

Penn State also fell out of the top ten despite winning its opener against Appalachian State. The Nittany Lions fell from No. 10 to No. 13.

As far as 2018 Notre Dame opponents go, Stanford moved up from No. 13 to No. 10 after a win over San Diego State. Virginia Tech shot from No. 20 to No. 12 after defeating Florida State. The Seminoles fell out of the Top 25 as a result of that loss. USC moved from No. 17 to No. 15 after a win over UNLV.

The Michigan Wolverines dropped down to No. 21 from No. 14 following the loss to the Irish.

If you are looking for teams who might be ranked a little higher than they should be at this point, I believe USC may be a little too high. That wasn’t a great UNLV team they beat — and going off the eye test — I’m not sure the Trojans are better than Boise State, Central Florida or Mississippi State.

Next. Kizer and St. Brown survive the cut in Green Bay. dark

In terms of teams who were disrespected in the polls, I’m looking down at the “others receiving votes” section, where the Iowa Hawkeyes only got three votes. The Hawkeyes came away with a sound win over one of the better Group of Five teams in the country (Northern Illinois) over the weekend.
