SOUTH BEND, IN – NOVEMBER 04: Brandon Wimbush /

Huge Start

Notre Dame comes into this game as a huge favorite. It’s no surprise considering that Ball State finished last year 2-10 in the MAC. The Cardinals are extremely undermatched and that will be on display in the first couple of series.

Last week against Michigan, Brandon Wimbush looked sharp and confident, especially in the first half. Even a poke to the eye couldn’t slow down the quarterback.

While it’s likely that Wimbush will not play the majority of this game, the first few possessions will be all his to continue to impress Irish fans and the rest of the nation.

In the quarterback battle this offseason, we learned that Wimbush is willing to do whatever it takes to win, even if that means splitting time under center. While he will be splitting time this week, it will be for a different motive.

Notre Dame will want to put the Cardinals away early so that they can get more players in-game experience. From quarterback to linemen, the motive this time is to get better as a team.

Sometimes teams need a slow start after a huge victory the weekend before to kind of provide a wake-up call. It will be the opposite this time. Notre Dame will come out of the tunnel ready to step on the gas and not give Ball State a glimpse of hope.

This Notre Dame team has a lot to prove and taking away any hope the Cardinals may have is going to be the goal. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Irish score on their first three possessions and start giving younger players some valuable playing time.
