Somehow, it is already week four of the college football season. Notre Dame football is sitting at 3-0 after a close win vs. Vanderbilt last week, and look to continue rolling as they take on Wake Forest in the first road game of 2018.

The Irish are coming off another close victory last week vs. Vanderbilt, and while the performance seemed like a slight increase from Ball State, there are still plenty of question marks moving forward about this team. Notre Dame football still leaves a lot to be desired on offense. While the play of Brandon Wimbush was fine vs Vanderbilt, going 13-23 for 206 total yards and no turnovers, the play-calling seemed to take a step back  and hindered the offense all afternoon.

On a more positive note, the Irish offensive line and running game seemed to take a step forward last week after a rough outing vs Ball State. Notre Dame racked up 245 rushing yards on 45 attempts — good enough for a 5.1 yard per carry average. Tony Jones Jr. also recorded his first career 100-yard rushing performance.

While the Irish have yet to put together a complete game on both sides of the ball for all four quarters, they are 3-0, which is their best start since 2015. These next three weeks will say a lot about this team and their potential, but it starts this Saturday in Winston-Salem vs. a 2-1 Wake Forest squad.

Here are the top storylines for week four’s matchup.
