Houshun Gaines, Defensive Lineman

With the dismissal of Trevon Hill early last week, Virginia Tech lost one of its most potent pass rushers. However, Houshun Gaines showed up big time in the absence of Hill against Duke. He recorded 4 tackles and 2.5 sacks, the most sacks he has had in a game in his career. He leads the Hokies in total sacks for the season with 3.5. Along with Reggie Floyd — who has 6.5 tackles for loss on the season — Gaines will look to disrupt Ian Book, who has been nothing short of phenomenal in his two starts.

The defensive front of Virginia Tech and the offensive front of Notre Dame will be an interesting matchup to watch, especially since the Irish are without Alex Bars. Look for Gaines to try to take advantage.
