Dexter Williams has a career day

As mentioned earlier, no other team in the nation has received a bigger push five games into the season. Against Stanford and Virginia Tech, William showed out.

Versus Stanford, it was all supposed to be about Bryce Love. Williams made it about him instead. Williams took it to the house on his first touch of the season. He ended with a 161 rushing yard day.

Before Williams, there was a mix of Jafar Armstrong and Tony Jones Jr. going back and forth on who would have the better day. In just two games Williams has become the rushing leader on the team.

Even after an extremely slow start versus Virginia Tech, Williams stood out. In the first half, Notre Dame wasn’t even attempting to run the ball. The Irish ended the half with -3 rushing yards. Facing adversity, Williams turned the corner in the second half with a 97-yard touchdown run.

He would go on to have 178 yards on 17 carries for a 10.5-yard average and three touchdowns. His day ended up even better than it was against Stanford.

Now he is facing a team that has had its fair share of struggles. On average, the Panthers have allowed 224 rushing yards this season. Three teams this year have averaged over five yards a carry when playing Pitt.

While the offensive line has taken some hits, they have grown into a strong unit. Even after losing their captain Alex Bars for the season, this line has found ways to clear lanes. Those lanes have opened up Williams’ game.

Now with a great passing attack, Notre Dame has become very well balanced. Williams takes pressure off of the passing game while they take pressure off of him. In a game where Pitt’s defense will likely struggle, Williams should be able to surpass 178 yards, completing a career-best day.
