Improving on an outstanding sophomore season, Julian Love is irreplaceable to this Notre Dame football team. He is the undoubtedly Notre Dame’s Defensive Player of the Year thus far.

For Notre Dame football, its best corner in years (decades?) comes in as my defensive Most Valuable Player so far.

I can’t lie, it was very difficult to not use a ‘Love’ pun in my intro, but I abstained. You’re welcome.

Julian Love has been a shut-down corner for the entirety of his Notre Dame career, and this season has been no different. Notre Dame fans can confidently go into games knowing Love will shut down any  team’s best wide receiver, and he makes it look easy.

Notre Dame fans have become accustomed to — and maybe a bit spoiled by — Julian Love’s eye for the game-changing play. Love has an eye for the big play, and it seems to come at times when his team needs him the most. His pick-six against Michigan State last season and his scoop-and-score against Virginia Tech were CLUTCH.

Julian Love, besides being a shut-down corner, has also had otherworldly stats this season. Through 7 games, Love has racked up 27 total tackles, 12 passes defended, 1 INT, 3 fumble recoveries, and a touchdown. If you didn’t already know, the man does it all.

Love has shown such versatility as well. He can play any position in the secondary at a high level and may be Notre Dame’s best athlete on either side of the ball. Love seems to be just as comfortable at corner as he is at safety or free safety.

Next. Notre Dame's Offensive MVP at the Bye Week. dark

As we move toward a possible College Football Playoff berth for Notre Dame, Love will be right in the middle of it for ND. If he can continue to dominate on the defensive side of the ball, this Notre Dame team has no limit.
