Notre Dame football added another quality commitment to its 2019 recruiting class: Linebacker Marist Liufau.

On Wednesday night, Notre Dame football landed 2019 linebacker Marist Liufau out of Hawaii. Liufau was on campus with his family this past weekend for the Florida State game, received an offer from the staff, and clearly felt the visit blew him away enough to pull the trigger and officially commit to the Irish. He holds 10 offers from the likes of USC, Oregon, and Boise State among others.

Liufau will be joining fellow Hawaiian natives in safety Alohi Gilman and defensive tackle Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. He also comes from the same high school as from Notre Dame linebacker great Manti Te’o, along with former wide receiver Robby Toma.

What will Liufau bring the South Bend?

The 6’2, 210-pound linebacker can do just about everything. He’s played linebacker, cornerback, defensive end, and safety on the defensive side of the ball throughout high school so far. His range and size are what you want as a defensive player and his ability to play multiple positions is why he’s such an intriguing prospect. Right now, it seems like the staff will want him at the rover position because of his speed and athleticism. Additionally, he loves contact and he wants to hit people so clearly that’s the kind of rover you want on your team. Liufau’s football instincts are off the charts for a consensus “3-star” prospect.

This all happened pretty quick from the outside looking in, but I think the staff knew about this gem of a player for awhile and was waiting for the right time to make the move. This past weekend was that time. If Luifau has the same work ethic as his other fellow Hawaiian counterparts on the team, the Irish are in extremely good shape for quite awhile.

Liufau will be joining Osita Ekwonu and Jack Kiser in the group of linebackers. With the addition, Liufau the class now holds 11 defensive players and 9 on the offensive side of the ball.

For Notre Dame’s overall recruiting class, numbers are very tight and only one or two spots probably remain. The Irish are on a roll and I don’t see it stopping.
