A Rush for Gold: Notre Dame Reveals Cotton Bowl Uniforms
By Paul Walsh
Notre Dame unveiled their “Rush 4 Gold” jerseys today that will be worn in their first College Football Playoff game against Clemson in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl.
The jerseys, crafted by Under Armour, are a play off Notre Dame’s traditional away white jerseys. The jerseys feature gold embellishment around the interlocking ND logo on the shoulder and most noticeably around the jersey numbers. The back of the neck on the inside of the jersey includes golden stitching that reads “A Rush 4 Gold.” The jersey also includes a patch with the Cotton Bowl logo.
The players will be wearing kelly green gloves that include a golden Under Armour logo. The players’ cleats will be kelly green as well, which also include a golden Under Armour logo. However, the dominant feature of the cleats are the bottom of them, which are decked out in full golden glory.
I can’t say enough about how much I love these uniforms. Under Armour did a phenomenal job adding just enough flare to Notre Dame’s traditional away uniform.
The subtle additions of the shinier gold are a perfect marriage with the Notre Dame helmets. In short, these uniforms are enough of what we have come to know in order to preserve tradition, but they are different enough to provide some stylistic hype heading into Notre Dame’s playoff battle with Clemson on December 29th.
The design should keep both younger, forward-thinking fans and traditionalists happy. Some love love the green. Others want it at a minimum. But one thing we can all agree on: Notre Dame can’t wear enough gold.
