Here’s how the Notre Dame football coach has fared against the teams on the 2019 schedule.

Even as “Brian Kelly to the NFL” rumors continue to swirl, it’s ok to assume that the head coach will return to the Notre Dame sidelines in 2019. Honestly, most us would be stunned if he moved on to Sundays, especially given the recruiting classes he’s pulled in recently. It looks like everything is set up for Kelly to be successful at Notre Dame for quite some time.

In that spirit, let’s look ahead at the 2019 schedule and examine how Kelly has fared against those oppoents while at Notre Dame.

Louisville

0-1. Somehow, Notre Dame’s loss to the Bobby Petrino-coached club in 2014 was the only meeting between these two schools.

New Mexico

No previous matchups.

Georgia

0-1. The 2017 classic was the only matchup between the two programs during the Kelly era.

Virginia

1-0. The 2015 matchup in Charlottesville was the only matchup between the two programs during the Kelly era. It did, however, have plenty of drama:

Bowling Green

No Previous matchups.

USC

6-3. Two of Kelly’s wins were vacated, but those games happened, and we’re counting them.

Michigan

3-3. One of the wins was technically vacated, but again, the game happened.

Virginia Tech

1-1. Both games in the history of the matchup took place when Brian Kelly and Justin Fuente coached the teams.

Duke

0-1. Kelly lost the only game he played against Duke and head coach David Cutcliffe in 2016.

Navy

7-2. The games between Kelly and Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo have been fairly competitive over the last six years.

Boston College

5-0. The games have been fairly close, but Kelly has dominated the Eagles.

Stanford

3-6. The 2018 win was the first time Kelly has defeated Stanford since 2014.
