2020 Defensive Recruiting: What Would a Dream Class Look Like for Notre Dame?
Linebackers
Similarly to defensive tackle, the Notre Dame staff will be picky at linebacker in 2020 and limit the scholarship amount to a few spots. Again, this shows with the amount of offers given out, which is below ten right now. Top targets include Kalel Mullings (Massachusetts), Curtis Jacobs (Maryland) and Cody Simon (New Jersey) — all from regions and high schools Notre Dame has recruited well in the past. After landing eight linebackers and possibly nine with Turner over the last two cycles, Clark Lea and his defensive staff can afford to wait this 2020 class out.
Simon is the name many Irish fans will gravitate towards, as his brother Shayne is about to enter his sophomore year in South Bend. Much like Shayne, Cody should see his recruitment skyrocket over the next several months. He is a coveted target for the staff. Jacobs is an interesting target, currently listed on 247sports as a wide receiver, but is also being recruited by multiple schools as a linebacker. His upside at the position is tremendous and something the ND staff definitely loves.
Lastly, Mullings is another intriguing athlete, as he was hurt for the majority of the 2018 season. However, even after dropping in the updated 2020 rankings, he remains at No. 102. If the staff is comfortable with his medicals, he would be a welcomed addition to the class.
