Secondary

I have lumped corner and safety together, because much like defensive tackle and linebacker, the Irish coaching staff will be selective on secondary targets for 2020. They’ve currently offered 14 in total. At corner, Clark Phillips III (California) is to the position what Darrion Henry is to the defensive end class; the top target and a must get if they want to land a dream class. However, Phillips — at least right now — seems much more realistic overall. Second on the list is Enzo Jennings (Michigan). Jennings has been on Notre Dame’s radar for quite some time, and will remind some of current Irish safety Houston Griffith. Jennings is looked at as sort of a safety/corner hybrid right now and could factor in at either position in South Bend. If Notre Dame were only to land two guys in the secondary for 2020, these would be the two they would want.

At corner, the only other name to monitor is Jalen Kimber (Texas); cousin/friend of 2019 signee Kyle Hamilton which always helps. He is currently listed as 3-star recruit, but should see his stock rise as the months go on.

Safety has a few more names to consider. Notre Dame is actively recruiting a few guys from difficult regions that seem to be tough pulls, but this is a dream right? Darius Snow (Texas) and Kristian Story (Alabama) have shown enough interest in the Irish to talk about, but both seem far-fetched at this point. I can’t recall the last time, if ever, Notre Dame pulled a kid out of Alabama with an Alabama offer. Snow seems a tad more realistic, but with Texas schools and his dad’s alma mater — Michigan State — in the mix, it’s wishful thinking to expect him in the class.

If we are getting really crazy, Notre Dame just offered five-star corner Fred Davis II (Florida) and have been actively recruiting five-star CB Kelee Ringo (Arizona) and S RJ Mickens (Texas). These would certainly be home run gets.
