5. Boston College

Steve Addazio and his dudes are always a tough team, even if they’re not the most talented. With AJ Dillon — college football’s most underappreciated running back — heading downhill, the Eagles will be a physical battle for the Irish. 2018’s 7-5 record was a bit disappointing, as Boston College was ranked in the AP poll early in the season. A late season skid made their record look worse than it was in reality. Boston College should present a low scoring matchup where defense and special teams decide the winner.

4. Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech’s season was derailed before Notre Dame headed to Blacksburg. Justin Fuente’s squad lost an embarrassing game to a bad Old Dominion team, as well as quarterback Josh Jackson going down for the year with an injury. The Hokies still went .500 for the regular season, but that was a huge disappointment. Much like USC, despite a poor record by their program’s standards, Virginia Tech still has a truckload of talent. They should be contending for double-digit wins again in 2019.
