Former Irish quarterback Brandon Wimbush is looking for a new home to play football next season. His next stop could land him in the state of Florida.

It has recently been reported that Brandon Wimbush will be taking a visit to UCF. Wimbush is looking to transfer, as a graduate, and have a chance to start next season. For Wimbush, UCF is the best place to end up.

Wimbush landing at UCF would make sense for a couple of reasons. The first reason is need. UCF’s star quarterback McKenzie Milton has already had upwards of four surgeries on his severely injured right leg. It’s doubtful he plays next season. Frankly, playing ever again is in question.

This leaves UCF very young at the quarterback position. There is Darriel Mack, who will be a sophomore next season. He replaced Milton when he went down with injury. Mack showed a lot of promise, but certainly had room for improvement. After Mack is Quadry Jones, who has not seen the field beyond one trick play, and incoming freshman Dillon Gabriel. In short, UCF might benefit from the addition of Wimbush as an experienced quarterback.

Wimbush would also fit into what the Knights like to do offensively. Traditionally, UCF likes to utilize the quarterback run, an area in which Wimbush excelled at Notre Dame. The decisions for a quarterback are often simple in an offense like UCF’s. Typically, there are only a couple of routes to choose from. The bigger decision is to give the ball off in the run or pull it and throw, on their frequently used run-pass options.

Furthermore, Josh Heupel, UCF’s head coach, is known as somewhat of a quarterback guru. He turned Missouri into the offensive power of the SEC when he was their offensive coordinator. Last season, he continued the success that Scott Frost had the year prior. Finally, Heupel was a National Championship winning quarterback at Oklahoma himself.

One thing is for sure and that’s that Brandon Wimbush won’t be at Notre Dame next season. He will be headed somewhere to have the opportunity to play and UCF would make a ton of sense for him and them. In the end, he has a chance to win there and play right away. The opportunity makes a lot of sense for Wimbush.
