The Notre Dame Women’s Basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech in an ACC road matchup.

It was another successful weekend for the Irish, as they took down Wake Forest 78-48. The defense stepped up big and the Irish were able to win by 30 points. The Irish will now head down to southern Virginia to take on the Hokies of Virginia Tech.

The Irish

Notre Dame could have very easily had a letdown on Sunday after the performance they put in against Louisville late last week, but the Irish came out strong and never looked back, beating the Demon Deacons by 30 points. Jessica Shepard and Brianna Turner are so in rhythm right now that teams are having a rough time trying to stop the high-low tandem. This has been huge for them on both ends of the floor, but especially in terms of scoring.

While it wasn’t a big concern on Sunday, the Irish can’t go too long with Arike Ogunbowale scoring just four points. Notre Dame is at its best best when the senior is playing with a swagger and scoring points. The bright side is she was doing a nice job of distributing the ball and finding her teammates. With a matchup against Tennessee just around the corner, the Irish need Ogunbowale to find her scoring rhythm once again.

Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech started the season off on a hot streak. They were 13-0 through non-conference play. That’s when ACC play hit. Now the Hokies are 0-3 against the ACC and sit tied for last in the conference table. One player that will catch Irish fans’ attention will be Dara Mabrey, the younger sister of senior Marina Mabrey and former Irish guard Michaela. The freshman is averaging 12.0 points per game and has the highest 3-point percentage of players that have attempted 15 or more shots. Another player Irish fans should keep an eye out is for senior guard Taylor Emery. The Tampa, Florida native is averaging 18.9 points per game.
