Notre Dame Women’s Basketball: Irish look for stability at home vs. FSU
By Jordan Small
The Notre Dame women’s basketball team will return home on Sunday afternoon as they host to Florida State University.
On Thursday night, the Irish traveled to South Florida to take on the University of Miami. Notre Dame fell to the Hurricanes by a score of 72-65. The Irish now return home to play host to Florida State. The Seminoles come into the game having just beaten No. 9 North Carolina State on Thursday night.
The Irish
For the third time this season, the Irish are coming off of a loss. Against Miami on Thursday, they struggled offensively. They shot just 37 percent from the floor. In the other two losses, it was sloppy play and poor defense that did them in, but their offense was always there for them. Now they go into another top 25 matchup on Sunday needing to play better all around.
One player who needs to step up for the Irish is Brianna Turner. Turner had just five points and four rebounds against Miami in the loss. If the Irish have a starter fail to reach double figures in scoring, it puts the whole team in a bind. With Turner coming off a season where she sat out due to injury, it begs the question — is she back to full strength?
Florida State
Florida State comes into Sunday’s matchup at 20-3. They are, like the Irish, 8-2 in conference play and have won four of their last five. They are coming off a huge victory over No. 9 North Carolina State. On the road this season, they are 7-0. One player to keep an eye out for is Kiah Gillespie. She is currently averaging a team high 17.0 points per game on 47.0 percent shooting. Gillespie also leads Florida State in rebounds per game with 8.5
How to watch
Tip-off for the matchup is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
