Notre Dame has a chance to hold on to a thread of life with what would be a revenge win over Georgia Tech on Sunday.

The ups and downs of this season continue for Notre Dame. The 2-8 conference record is something that no one saw coming into this season. Even through all the struggles, there’s always been a reason for optimum — until now.

The majority of Notre Dame’s losses have been in close games with the exception of Virginia and Duke for obvious reasons. After a well-rounded victory over Boston College, it was followed with one of the most lackluster efforts in recent memory vs. Miami.

If there was ever a time to worry about the Irish, the 62-47 loss to Miami was it.

The Yellow Jackets have also seen their fair share of struggles this season, coming into the game with a 3-7 ACC record.

Ever since beating the Irish in Atlanta 63-61, Georgia Tech hasn’t won a conference game. The game slipped out of Notre Dame’s hands in the final minutes with some questionable time management.

The Irish struggled with Georgia Tech’s zone last time out and that will likely be a consistent issue again. The Yellow Jackets were able to pull off the victory without Brandon Alston, their third-leading scorer.

Georgia Tech has struggled to find its offense this season, averaging only 65.8 points per game. Things on the offensive end have not seen any improvement, especially with Jose Alvarado’s offensive production becoming nonexistent.

Since playing Notre Dame, Alvarado has scored 7, 5, 0 and 3 points in each of the next four games. The Yellow Jackets don’t have another answer when he struggles. They have scored fewer than 55 points in the last four games and under 50 in the last two.

Of course, the Irish have had their fair struggles on offensive, averaging just 71.1 points per game and scoring a head-scratching 47 points against Miami.

Both teams are looking at this game as one to build confidence with — and both teams are in dire need of a confidence-building win. It will likely be another low-scoring, grind-it-out type of game.

Tip-off is at 6 p.m. ET. You can catch the action on ESPNU.
