The Notre Dame women’s basketball team got their eleventh win in ACC play on Monday night, taking down North Carolina State, 95-72.
The Notre Dame women’s basketball team hit the road on Monday night looking for their third straight win. It was a dominating win for the visitors as the Irish took down North Carolina State 95-72. Arike Ogunbowale led all scorers with 22 points. Marina Mabrey added 21 points of her own to lead the Irish to victory.
Double-Double party in Raleigh
Once again, the Irish had incredible balance in their scoring. They had all five starters in double figures once again. Marina Mabrey and Arike Ogunbowale both put up over 20 points, including four baskets from beyond the arc. But it was the performances of Jessica Shepard and Jackie Young that really stood out on Monday night. Shepard put up 18 points and 13 rebounds, good for a double-double. She also had three assists and three steals to round out her evening. Then Young put up a double-double of her own with 16 points and 12 rebounds. And for good measure, she added six assists, four steals, and a block.
Chasing Skylar
Well it couldn’t be more fitting than this. Thursday night, the Irish will host Duke for their second to last home game of the regular season and it could be a special night for Arike Ogunbowale. With 22 points on Monday night against North Carolina State, Ogunbowale needs just 11 points to tie and 12 points to pass Skylar Diggins-Smith for most points all time at Notre Dame.
Ogunbowale also added eight rebounds and eight assists on Monday night, but none was more special than her pass with just under six minutes remaining in the first quarter. Her behind the back pass along the baseline to Brianna Turner will surely be on the highlight real.
