The Notre Dame women’s basketball team will return home on Sunday afternoon for one final time during the regular season.

On Monday night, the Irish traveled to Syracuse. Notre Dame beat the Orange by a score of 98-68. The Irish will return home for their final home game of the regular season as they play host to the University of Virginia. The Cavaliers are coming off a 63-45 loss at Virginia Tech on Thursday night.

The Irish

Notre Dame went on the road Monday night and continued their dominant run of the past five games. They traveled to play a top-20 team and beat them by 30 points. One of Notre Dame’s strong points in that game was their shooting. They shot 56.7 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free throw line. They also had all five starters in double figures once again. Jessica Shepard and Jackie Young both recorded double-doubles and Young was just two rebounds away from getting her second triple-double of the season.

Heading into Sunday, the Irish need to make sure they take care of business. Sunday will be the last regular season game at Purcell Pavilion for four of the five starters. This will mean emotions will be high on Senior Day. So to combat that, the Irish need to get into a groove early. Since they don’t have a lot of scoring depth off the bench, it will once again be on the starters to get it done. And with the Cavaliers not being very good this season, it should be a chance for the Irish players to have a little fun.

Virginia

Virginia comes into Sunday’s matchup at 11-17. They are 5-10 in conference play and have lost three of their last five. On the road this season, they are 2-8. One player to keep an eye out for is Jocelyn Willoughby. She is currently averaging a team-high 14.0 points per game on 38.2 percent shooting. Willoughby also leads Virginia in rebounds per game with 8.3.
