The Notre Dame women’s basketball team will kick off the ACC Tournament on Friday afternoon when they take on the University of North Carolina.

On Sunday afternoon, the Notre Dame women’s basketball team played host to the University of Virginia for senior day. The Irish defeated the Cavaliers 103-66. Arike Ogunbowale led all scorers with 24 points and Jackie Young added a triple-double in the win. The Irish will now take on the University of North Carolina in the first game of the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, NC.

The Irish

Notre Dame finished the regular season on a six-game winning streak that helped them secure a share of the ACC regular season title and the number one seed in the ACC Tournament. In the final game against Virginia, five players for the Irish were in double figures, with two scoring over 20 points. Overall, the Irish shot the ball very well, including 93.3 percent from the free throw line and 55.1 percent from the field.

When the Irish take on North Carolina on Friday, they will have to not get caught up in a trap. Being on an extra day of rest, the Irish should have the fresher legs. The last time they played the Tar Heels, they struggled and it was the first ACC loss of the season for the Irish. A big reason for that was the turnovers. This time around, they will have Jackie Young, which will be a big help. If the Irish can get out to a fast start and limit their turnovers, they will be in good shape.

North Carolina

UNC comes into Friday’s matchup at 18-13. They are 8-8 in regular season conference play and beat Georgia Tech on Thursday in the second round of the tournament. One player to keep an eye on is Paris Kea. In the first game against the Irish, she had 30 points and 10 assists. Kea also went 5-8 from beyond the arc.
