Coming off a championship run last season, the Notre Dame women’s basketball team completed another successful regular season, which was capped off with an ACC regular season championship.

This season, Notre Dame returned four of five starters and welcomed back Brianna Turner to the lineup. They went 27-3 in the regular season and split the regular season ACC title with Louisville. After a national championship run last year, they did a good job in the regular season to set themselves up to repeat. Now the ACC tournament awaits and there are big implications.

In non-conference play, the Irish went 13-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of rival UConn. Along the way, they picked up key victories over Oregon State, Marquette, and Tennessee. During that time, they outscored their opponents 1,237 to 853, scoring over 90 points in seven games. But that loss to UConn was tough. It was their first loss of the season and while it was close for a bit, they ended up losing by 18 on their home floor.

Then came ACC play. They won six straight to open the league season, including a big win at home over Louisville. That’s when the road woes set in. After beating Tennessee on the road, the Irish traveled to Chapel Hill to take on the University of North Carolina. Sloppy play and the absence of Jackie Young allowed for the Tar Heels to pull the upset. Just three games later, the Irish would drop their third game of the season and second in ACC play when they fell at Miami. Since the loss to Miami though, the Irish have gone on a six-game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 579 to 384.
