Defensive MVP: Brianna Turner

The defensive MVP is a no-brainer. Just this week, Brianna Turner won ACC Defensive Player of the year for the third time in her career. She joins Ruth Riley as the only player in program history to win conference defensive player of the year three times in their career. Turner is one of those players that you want on your team and would hate to go against because of her ability to deny anything that comes towards the basket.

Coming off a season where she sat out to recover from her ACL injury, it wasn’t clear which Brianna Turner we would see, but it turned out just fine for Irish fans. She slid right into the lineup and became the perfect complement to Jessica Shepard in the post. But all in all, the numbers speak for themselves. Turner averaged 2.7 blocks per game this season and 3.1 blocks in ACC play. That put her in the top 10 in the country and number one in the ACC.
