Notre Dame Women’s Basketball: 2018-2019 Regular Season Review

Best Newcomer: Abby Prohaska
Newcomer of the year is hard when one freshman has missed more than a third of the season and another has missed over ten games. While she gets this kind of by default, Abby Prohaska deserves this award and here is why. The starting lineup for the Irish is great, one of the best in the country, so it was unlikely that anyone was going to get much playing time off the bench. But what Prohaska provides is a nice spark, especially on the defensive end.
The lefty is not necessarily the most prolific scorer, but her ability to get in and be scrappy is great. That is apparent in the number of fouls she takes per game, which she is getting better about. She has 55 rebounds and 26 steals which makes for a good addition to the zone. She still has a ways to go, but if the Irish need a big play defensively, Prohaska is a good option to have out there.
