The Notre Dame women’s basketball team picked up their first win at the ACC Tournament, beating North Carolina in the third round, 95-77.

The Irish began their quest for the ACC Championship on Friday afternoon in Greensboro, NC. It was a rematch for Notre Dame as they were facing the University of North Carolina, one of only two teams in the ACC to beat them this season. Unlike the first matchup, Jackie Young was in the lineup and the turnovers were limited in the 95-77 win. Arike Ogunbowale led all scorers with 28 points. Brianna Turner added 24 points and 10 rebounds to help the Irish advance.

Brianna Turner turns up the heat

It had been a while since Brianna Turner had played an ACC Tournament game, but man did she make her comeback known. Turner went 11-15 from the floor, scoring 24 points. That was a season high for Turner, who continues to get better and better as the season progresses. On top of her 24 points, she also recorded 10 rebounds, a block, and two steels. While she is known for her defensive abilities, it was her offensive capabilities that were on full display Friday afternoon. If the Irish can continue to see quality production out of her, it will be difficult for teams to stop the Irish.

Efficiency was the name of the game

After not having a game since Sunday, the Irish came out firing on all cylinders. Four of the five starters made it into double digits with Marina Mabrey falling just short at 7 points. Overall, the Irish shot 58 percent from the field, marking their third straight game shooting over 55 percent and their seventh straight game shooting over 50 percent. This team might not be the best defensively, but when they are shooting the ball well, there is very little teams can do to stop them. They also had just 11 turnovers on the day, down nine since the last time they played UNC. If they want to beat Syracuse again on Saturday, their shooting will have to be stellar once again.
