The wise guys in the desert project Notre Dame to flirt with the double-digit mark again in 2019.

Now is the time of year when certain sports betting outlets start trickling out their odds and numbers for the upcoming college football season. On Monday, BetOnline.ag released some over/under win totals for some of college football’s top programs — including Notre Dame.

The books have Notre Dame’s over/under win total at 9 1/2.

Of the numbers that were released, only Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Washington had higher numbers. Sitting right there with the Irish at 9 1/2 are Michigan, Oregon and Texas.

Going off those numbers, it would appear that the Irish are projected to be a top-ten team by the oddsmakers, something many Notre Dame fans would expect. As far as the specific number goes, I think 9 1/2 is a good betting line.

Looking at Notre Dame’s 2019 schedule, they’ll probably be favored in all but three games: at Georgia, at Michigan and at Stanford.

If you bet the under, you are essentially betting that the Irish lose all three of those games. If you go with the over, you are basically saying you think they’ll win at least one of those three.

On the other hand, there are some tricky games that Notre Dame will be favored in, yet could easily be viewed as potential trap contests. USC and Virginia Tech won’t be cake walks, and there’s no telling what sort of team Duke might field when the Irish travel there on Nov. 9.

We’ll know a lot more about Notre Dame after the Spring football session, but right now, it would appear that Vegas has a pretty solid idea of what to expect out of Notre Dame football in 2019.
