Notre Dame Earns 1 Seed in the NCAA Tournament

The Notre Dame women’s basketball team has earned yet another 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Irish begin their quest for a repeat on Saturday March 23rd, when they will face Bethune-Cookman.
Death, taxes, and the Notre Dame women’s basketball team earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
This marks the eighth straight year that the Irish have been awarded a 1-seed. Think about that for a second.
In the last year that Muffet McGraw’s team was not a 1 seed, Adele’s Rolling In The Deep was the top song on the Billboard charts, The King’s Speech won best picture at the Oscar’s, and Brian Kelly was entering his second season as the head coach of the Notre Dame football team.
The defending national champions had a strong 2018-2019 campaign. The Irish only suffered three losses in the regular season: against Connecticut, at North Carolina, and at Miami. All three of those teams are in this year’s tournament, but none of them are in the same region as Notre Dame.
More recently, the Irish have won their last nine games. Their last three wins came in the ACC Tournament – including a win over Louisville in the final.
In this year’s NCAA Tournament, Notre Dame was placed in the Chicago Region. They will play their first round game against Bethune-Cookman on March 23rd in South Bend.
If they advance to the second round game, they will host the winner of Central Michigan and Michigan State in South Bend.
The Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games for their region will be held in Wintrust Arena in Chicago the following weekend..
