Kyren Williams

Nathan:

Finally, breaking the trend of only wide receivers and multi-year players in this article — we enter our first running back and true freshman. Williams was a tough choice over Jahmir Smith and C’Bo Flemister, but ultimately we felt he provided the most value as a run/catch option. While Smith and Flemister offer Notre Dame true between-the-tackles running ability, it would take an injury or two for them to see significant playing time. Williams can help the team right now with his unique abilities.

Plus, he might simply be the most talented of the three regardless. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans if Williams receives a healthy dose of playing time in 2019 and is the true 3rd back behind Armstrong and Jones.

Mason:

The one and only freshman on this list, the big-time recruit Kyren Williams looks to be a potential breakout candidate this Fall. Williams comes to Notre Dame as the 24th ranked RB in the 2019 class and a 4-star recruit. Anytime the third running back position is up for grabs on a team like Notre Dame, you like to see young guys fight for it. That is exactly what to expect from Williams. Williams is a fighter and top-notch RB recruit that should see a good amount of playing time this Fall.

Williams will have to fight for playing time with Jahmir Smith and C’Bo Flemister, but he is more talented than Flemister and should be able to beat out Smith or at least split time with him. If Williams impresses in his time on the field, ND will have no choice but to continue feeding him. He could have a 2018 Jafar Armstrong type of season if everything works in his favor. Watch out for him come this fall
