The Notre Dame women’s basketball team was back in action on Monday night. In the second round of the tournament, the Irish defeated Michigan State, 91-63.

Just two days after beating Bethune-Cookman, the Notre Dame women’s basketball team was back in action on Monday night. The Irish played their final home game of the season against Michigan State. They took down the Spartans 91-63. Arike Ogunbowale led all scorers with 23 points. Jackie Young added 21 points and 11 rebounds.

It’s Jackie Young’s world

For the next month or so, there will be a guessing game happening when it comes to where Jackie Young will be playing next season. Because of her age, Young will be eligible to enter the WNBA draft this April, despite having one more year of eligibility. But if this was the last time the junior will have played in South Bend, it was definitely a night to remember.

Young spent much of the night at the point a position she has been forced to pick up a good portion of the season. She handled the duties of the one spot with grace and helped keep the high powered Irish offense flowing. Young finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists, just shy of picking up her third triple-double of the season.

Arike hits new milestone

Earlier this season, Arike Ogunbowale passed Skylar Diggins for the all time scoring record in program history. Since then, Ogunbowale has continued to distance herself at the top. On Monday night, she added 23 points in the win and eclipsed the 2,500 point mark. Coming into the season, Ogunbowale was already a household name. Now her name will forever be etched in the record books. With the possibility of four more games, it will be interesting to see where Ogunbowale’s final total ends up.
