Irish in the NFL: The Top 5 NFL Careers among Notre Dame Football Alumni
1. Alan Page: Defensive Tackle
Page is one of the best defensive lineman of all time, and the best known ‘Purple People Eater.’ Page played for 17 seasons, an incredibly long career, and went to nine Pro Bowls. Stats weren’t taken as meticulously in the 1960s and 1970s, so his stats aren’t readily available. This probably underrates Allan Page for modern football fans. What we don’t know through stats, can be imagined in awards. Page is a member of the 1970s all decade team. The four time defensive player of the year, was All-Pro nine times. That’s the same number of Pro Bowls that Page went to. He’s even only one of two defensive players to ever win the AP NFL MVP Award. Even in the 1970s, it took an insane season to win the award away from a quarterback, or a running back. Page was a dominant force, on and off the field.
