Notre Dame Football: Irish Land High Priority Wide Receiver Jordan Johnson
By Carlee North
Notre Dame football has hosted quite a few recruits over the past couple of weeks. Wide receiver Jordan Johnson was impressed with what he saw.
It was a huge start to a massive recruiting weekend for Notre Dame football, as the Irish landed its top wide receiver target Saturday night in Jordan Johnson. He announced his decision on twitter.
While on campus for his official visit this weekend, he decided to pull the trigger and officially commit to the staff. He originally planned to announce his commitment at the end of July on his birthday but clearly he just didn’t want to wait any longer to be all in publicly with Notre Dame. The staff wanted Johnson badly ever since they offered him back in January of 2018 and they finally got their guy they wanted all along.
As of now, Johnson holds 26 offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida, USC, and many other top programs around the country.
What does Johnson bring to Notre Dame?
The 6’2″ 180-pound wide receiver could be the best to come to South Bend since Michael Floyd. He’s your prototype receiver on the outside with exceptional ball skills. He catches nearly everything that comes his way and has top athleticism at his position. He’s very smooth in his route running and can be very physical when needed.
Another big strength is his ability to run under the deep ball. He has great control on his body for his age and he’s very difficult to run with because of his acceleration at the line of scrimmage on vertical routes.
But the biggest thing for me is that many players don’t truly have the “it” factor coming out of high school. That is not true for Johnson: He absolutely wants the ball coming his way in the biggest of situations on the field. He wants to be the one to make the play and that’s what I love about him. He’s a playmaker you want on your team.
Last season, he had 28 receptions for over 700 yards and 9 touchdowns. You can see some of Johnson’s best highlights here.
Once Johnson gets with Notre Dame strength coach Matt Balis in the weight room and he gets his hands on the playbook, watch out. This kid could be very special in blue and gold. Saying that Johnson is a huge get for Chip Long and the Irish staff is an understatement.
