After a stellar junior season for Notre Dame women’s basketball, Jackie Young has cashed in on her efforts, being selected number one in the WNBA Draft.

Jackie Young will head to Vegas for her first season. With the first overall pick in the WNBA draft, the Las Vegas Aces selected the junior out of Notre Dame. She will now join fellow Notre Dame alum Kayla McBride out in Las Vegas.

She will fit in well out there because she can be a depth addition to Kelsey Plum at the point while also adding some help on the defensive end. Being the number one overall pick, Young is bound to have a heavy load from the beginning with the Aces. It will be interesting to see where she fits in on the court, but there is no doubt that Young fits in well for Bill Laimbeer and his Las Vegas squad.

If you look at Jackie Young’s stats, they don’t necessarily jump off the stat sheet. But you’ll be hard pressed to find a more complete player than Young. She is bound to make an impact right away for her team and will be a star for years to come. What is so special about Young is her length and ability to play any position from the one to the four. The past season and a half she has switched between the point guard and the small forward depending on the opponent and the situation.

But Young can really do it all no matter where she is on the floor. Her height lets her match up well against guards on the defensive end. She also can out jump just about everyone which makes her force on the glass. And while she doesn’t usually score a ton of points, she adds depth scoring that could be helpful for teams.
