Notre Dame Football: Irish land highly touted 2020 edge rusher

Notre Dame football is putting together a very impressive 2020 recruiting class that should have those that follow the program very excited.

After a visit to with the Notre Dame football program this past weekend, Jordan Botelho headed back to Hawaii extremely high on the Irish but not committed and wanted to possibly take a few more visits before making a commitment.

That changed very quickly, as Botelho officially committed to Notre Dame Thursday afternoon, less than a week after his visit to South Bend.

He was all in on the Irish and just didn’t want to wait any longer. Botelho is listed as a linebacker but the Irish staff are recruiting him as a drop defensive end. During his junior season of high school, he had more than 15 sacks and over 13 tackles for loss according to his Hudl profile.

Botelho holds 22 offers as of now from the likes of Washington, USC, Georgia and many other elite programs.

What will Botelho bring to South Bend?

Versatility is the first thing I think of when talking about Jordan Botelho. The 6’3″, 220-pound edge rusher has great speed off the edge to go along with his power. He’s very fluid with a strong upper body and aside from getting after the quarterback, which is his specialty, he’s also really solid with setting the edge against the run and will track you down in space when needed.

He’s listed at linebacker which definitely shows you his ability to run with receivers and tight ends in coverage, but the staff is completely sold on him as an edge rusher. A lot of that has to do with his top notch motor as well. He always seems to be in on every play and dominates his opponents with his toughness and aggression.

With Botelho now in the class the Irish have seven commits with three being on the defensive side of the ball, specifically all on the defensive line and four commits on offense. This is a massive pick up by Elston, Lea and the whole staff. Great job closing and getting him on board early.
