Michael Floyd: Round 1, Pick 13, 13th overall in 2012
Floyd was a can’t miss prospect coming into the NFL Draft. He was given an ESPN Scouts Inc draft grade of 93, as well as an 89.5 grade from NFL.com which translates to “perennial All-Pro,” borderline “once in a lifetime player.”
Floyd was a big time receiver at Notre Dame, paired up with the aforementioned Golden Tate for all but one season. He still managed over 3600 career receiving yards with 37 touchdowns.
If there was one word to describe Floyd, it was consistency. He was never an All American, but he was dependable and every week, you knew what you were going to get from Michael Floyd.
Both men are very athletic for their size, with both possessing the ability to make impressive catches even in traffic.
Almost all measurables are pretty similar. There’s no real size difference between the two. Floyd did have a higher number of bench reps (only by four) but Boykin blew Floyd away in the vertical (by an incredible 13 inches) and broad jump by an even more impressive 18 inches.
I’d give a clear advantage to Floyd in this. Always dependable, consistent and put up big numbers even when he was opposite an elite college receiver. I don’t think the small difference in 40 time is enough to swing in Boykin’s favor.
It seems like forever ago that Michael Floyd was being talked up as a future top 10 receiver in football.
Advantage: Michael Floyd
