Notre Dame was up 7-0 to the Wolverines about midway through the first quarter when Brandon Wimbush hurled a 43-yard pass into double coverage in the end zone. His target was Chris Finke. Finke all but wrestled the ball out of the defender’s hands and came down with the catch. The play put the Irish up two touchdowns to start the season against one of their biggest rivals. Notre Dame would go on to win the game, prove to be undefeated for the regular season, and secure a spot in the College Football Playoff for the first time.
