The Irish looked to stay undefeated as they traveled to the hostile Lane Stadium to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in prime time. Notre Dame was backed up to their own three yard line, clinging to a one point lead just after halftime. A hand off to Dexter Williams quickly turned that one point lead into a seven point lead as he blazed across the field for a 97-yard touchdown run. The play sparked the Irish for the rest of the game as they went on to win in blowout fashion. Notre Dame captured a win against a ranked opponent on the road to stay undefeated, thus giving the Irish a bit of a resume boost for the College Football Playoff.
