Heading into week four of the college football season, Notre Dame football was 3-0. However, the morale of the fanbase was teetering.

After a big win over Michigan in the season opener, the Irish had two close home wins against inferior opponents, Ball State and Vanderbilt. The Notre Dame defense was playing well, but there were mounting concerns about the play of starting quarterback Brandon Wimbush.

Head coach Brian Kelly made the decision to switch to Ian Book in the week leading up to the team’s first road game of the 2018 season.

Book did not squander this opportunity. He threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 43 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.
