While the last nomination was certainly a back-and-forth affair, this game took it to a whole other level. While many might not see a soccer game that featured zero goals and eight combined shots on goal in the first 110 minutes as ‘entertaining’ – how the game ended certainly made up for it.

After both teams failed to score a golden goal in the final ten minute period, a shootout was going to be the determining factor for who moved on in the NCAA tournament.

After Notre Dame and Michigan both converted on their first five kicks, each team came up with huge saves on the sixth attempt and kept their seasons alive. Again, each team would go on to trade kicks for the next five rounds, leaving the shootout score all even at 10 heading into the 12th round.

After goalkeeper Duncan Turnbull came up with another save for the Irish, senior Felicien Dumas converted on his next kick and gave Notre Dame the 11-10 shootout victory to punch their ticket to the Round of 16.
