Notre Dame and Miami go way back.

While the Catholics vs. Convicts Rivalry wasn’t the longest lived, it was one of the most passionate. Both teams competed against one another in the late 1980s for National Championships. The two programs have only met 26 times, but it’s fiery when they do. Think about the excitement when they met in 2017, and were both good. The atmosphere was untouchable. Both programs are trying to get back to their former glory, and Miami nicely fills one of Notre Dame’s ACC requirements.

Who could possibly forget the famous words of Notre Dame’s Lou Holtz calling out Miami’s Jimmy Johnson? That type of good old-fashioned rivalry would be great for not only both schools, but college football, in general.

The Irish and the Hurricanes have met a few times in recent memory, with the Irish coming out on top in most of the meetings, minus the 40-8 drumming they took in South Florida in November of 2017. With both programs rising the way they are, the renewal of this series would draw a lot of eyes. The Hurricanes should be a staple on Notre Dame’s schedule. The fact that they haven’t met much in recent memory is a travesty.
