Notre Dame and Michigan only have one more game scheduled. Both athletic directors say that they want to play each other, but are struggling to find space for each other. Hopefully, the series in renewed soon, because it’s one of the best. They’ve only met 43 times, but there is legitimate hate between the two programs. The two powers have 22 National Championships between them, and are both in the top four for all time winning percentage. The game is a great measuring stick, and Notre Dame’s seasons are more exciting when they play Michigan.

The Irish and the Wolverines are in similar places in each program’s development. In addition to their battles on the field, the Irish and Wolverines often engage in battles over recruits. The distance from South Bend to Ann Arbor is a mere 168 miles. As the saying goes, familiarity breeds contempt.

When Notre Dame and Michigan meet on the field, only one thing is for certain: Drama.

Most often, games between the Irish and the Wolverines are hotly-contested. Even when the score gets out of hand, the competition between the two schools is evident. Who could forget the ending of the game in 2014 when Elijah Shumate returned an interception on the last play of the game?

Notre Dame and Michigan should play every year. There’s no doubt about it.
