The University of Southern California represents far and away Notre Dame’s greatest rival, and it’s unimaginable that they wouldn’t play. Notre Dame has won 46 of their 90 all time meetings. Again, this game can make or break your season. An average year is made great by beating USC. It’s where some of Notre Dame’s great moments come from, like the Green Jersey Game. The game is so shrouded in myth, that no one is sure how it started. One rumor is Knute Rockne’s wife decided she’d rather go to Los Angeles than Nebraska every other year, and convinced Rockne to schedule the Trojans. Other theories say it was a way to play at the Rose Bowl and get more national attention.

At any rate, Notre Dame and USC are up there when it comes to the most famous and hotly-contested rivalries in college football.

Both programs have had their shots at greatness over the years. Having each other on the schedule means that each teams’ potential title hopes hinge on the annual game between the two schools.

Whether it be in mid-October or late November, the Irish and Trojans always add a layer of intrigue to the college football landscape.
