Perkins had a breakout season for Virginia in 2018 and quickly became one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the ACC.

In his junior year, he threw for 2,680 yards and 25 touchdowns. He also rushed for 923 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Cavaliers finished last season with a record of 8-5, but that record does not properly convey the quality of their team. Virginia lost three games by a total of 10 points, and two of their losses came on the road in overtime.

After the departures of his top receiver and starting running back, Perkins will need to shoulder more of the workload in 2019 if the Cavaliers are going to be successful.

Virginia has a chance to start the 2019 season ranked in the top 25. Athlon Sports has them ranked 25th in their preseason poll. Only two other ACC teams (Syracuse and Clemson) are ranked higher than them.

Even if they start the year ranked lower than that, they will have a chance to move up in the polls after week one, when they play a prime time game on the road against Pittsburgh.
