Notre Dame Football: The Top Five Quarterbacks the Irish will face in 2019
By Jack Leniart
3. Shea Patterson (Michigan)
Patterson started his college career at Ole Miss in 2016. After two seasons in Oxford, he transferred to Michigan and was granted immediate eligibility.
Patterson’s first game as a Wolverine was played under the lights in Notre Dame Stadium last September. He threw for 227 yards in that game, but he had an interception and a fumble that sealed a 24-17 victory for the Irish.
Despite his rough start, Patterson’s first season with the Wolverines was the best of his college career. He finished the year with 2,600 passing yards and 22 passing touchdowns. He also ran for 273 yards and two touchdowns.
The Michigan passing attack will have some continuity going into 2019. All of their top receivers are returning with the exception of Grant Perry. They will need to replace the production of tight end Zach Gentry, but Nick Eubanks and Sean McKeon should take care of that.
Athlon sports has the Wolverines ranked fourth in their preseason top 25. The projected improvement of Patterson and the Michigan offense as whole certainly influenced that ranking.
