Notre Dame Football: The Top Five Quarterbacks the Irish will face in 2019
By Jack Leniart
2. KJ Costello (Stanford)
Of the five quarterbacks on this list, Costello is the one that Irish fans are the most familiar with. Notre Dame has faced him in each of the last two seasons.
Costello bested the Irish in 2017, when he threw four touchdowns in the regular season finale. Jerry Tillery and the Notre Dame defense stifled Costello and the Cardinal when they made the trip to South Bend last September.
Costello had a terrific 2018 campaign. He finished the year with 3,540 passing yards and 29 touchdowns. He had the sixth best Total QBR in the country and ranked in the top 16 nationally in total passing yards, yards per attempt, and passing touchdowns.
The Stanford quarterback has his work cut out for him if he wants to bring the Cardinal back into the national spotlight. He will lose his top three receiving threats and his starting running back from last season.
In the Pac-12, you need to be able to score points. This year, more of that responsibility will be placed on the shoulders of K.J. Costello.
