Notre Dame Football: The top five running backs the Irish will face in 2019
By Chase Eyrich
Deon Jackson, Duke
Deon Jackson comes on this list by far with the most to prove. So far, the running back has been up for the challenge. From his freshman to sophomore season, more touches equaled many more yards.
Jackson became one of the most improved players on the offensive side of the ball during his sophomore year at Duke and is expected to take it even further this season.
After only 97 rushing yards in 2017, he became a new threat racking up 847 yards on the ground last season.
With his 220-pound frame, he has the capability to be a wreaking ball. It is tough to bring him down in goal-line situations.
Last season he had over 1,100 all-purpose yards thanks to his ability to make plays after the catch. He is potentially a scary player to look for in a dump pass situation.
What’s even more impressive is his speed. When the wheels start rolling, it’s almost impossible to catch up. From straight-line speed to getting to the edge, he has the ability to become a problem for much more than just the Irish.
