Notre Dame Football: The top five running backs the Irish will face in 2019
By Chase Eyrich
Andrew Clair, Bowling Green State
Bowling Green State hasn’t seen too much success recently. When they come to South Bend they will likely already be written off.
But when it comes to Andrew Clair, writing him off will only result in him making you pay for it.
From his freshman to sophomore season, there wasn’t the jump that many people thought there would be. In reality, he had an impressive freshman year with 725 rushing yards, averaging 6.8 yards per carry.
While many expected him to break out during his sophomore season, his numbers ever so slightly dipped to 702 rushing yards. This obviously was not the breakout many expected, but a solid performance worthy of being noted.
Clair possesses a decent amount of speed, but seems to want more to rely on his power. If you get him to the sideline, he’s not going out on his own. Fighting for yards, he’s much more likely to lower his head and attempt to run through a defender.
His extra yards seem to come from having a high football IQ. He might not have the sharpest cuts, but they’re always at the right time. Most of the time, he recognizes when a defender is likely to make his move and counter it with precision.
Clair has become an all-around player with his route running ability, which is once again a credit to his knowledge of the game.
Who knows if 2019 will be a breakout year or not for Clair, but we know his capability, which is good enough to land him on this list.
